How to get the perfect lawn

Tuesday, 18 June 2019 13:39:58 Europe/London

Got unsightly brown patches, or thin, pale grass? Here are the steps you need to follow to make your grass great again!

  1. Aerate your lawn - basically, this means to poke holes in the grass to allow air to circulate and allow water and nutrients to penetrate to the root zone.

  2. Rake out moss regularly.

  3. Use a slow-release fertilizer.  Boost your lawn by feeding it every 6-8 weeks during the growing season.

  4. Keep mower blades sharp so that the blades don’t tear at your grass. Sharp edges mean water can run away more quickly.

  5. Cut only the top third off the grass at each cut.  Taller grass creates more shade, holding more moisture in the soil and encourages a deeper root system.

  6. Don’t bag and bin all grass clippings - allow some to stay on the lawn, as this reduces water requirements and recycles nutrients.

  7. Avoid pets urinating on the grass if you can but if it is unavoidable, flush the area with water after each visit

  8. When it’s sunny, water your lawn deeply approximately weekly.
